A Dance of Light

A quick edit of one of the many shots taken!

Penmon is nestled along the rugged coastline of Anglesey, and with some luck and good fortune it is possible to see the aurora borealis here if the solar storm is strong enough. I have seen many an image of the Northern Lights at this iconic location, and have always wished to be able to get a shot here. Luck and fortune were on my side this evening!

I had been in North Wales attempting to shoot the zodiacal light, but was thwarted by clouds. The northern light alerts started to come in, and I packed my bag and headed to Penmon. I worried that I had missed the best of the action, and it was still incredibly busy when I arrived. I couldn’t put much effort into composition- I had to grab a spot whilst I could! I set my camera up and set it up to take interval shots, and breathed a sigh of relief that they could still be picked up by camera. The northern lights did intensify after a while, and I was thankful I hadn’t given up and gone home.

Although I had missed the earlier action, I was quite glad I arrived when I did. It was still busy, and peoples lights and head torches were a constant source of frustration for those shooting. I can only imagine how busy it would have been had I arrived earlier! It must of been 3am when I finally crawled into my bed, but it was worth every minute to get this bucket list shot.
