Dunnottar Castle

Dunnottar Castle rests on the top of a 160 foot rock, three sides surrounded by the North Sea. The ruins look incredibly impressive against such a dramatic landscape, it is truly breath taking. Over the years the castle has been burned, besieged and rebuilt in its turbulent history.

It has survived a Viking invasion, been occupied by the English, visited by saints and royalty. The extensive castle ruins give you a glimpse into history, one can only imagine how this castle looked back in it’s day.

You are able to go into the castle and explore, but unfortunately for me I was working in Aberdeen so arrived there for sunrise. It wasn’t quite the sunrise I hoped for, but it was enchanting nonetheless to spend some time in this romantic, dramatic landscape briefly.
