Porth Wen Brickworks from above
A different perspective of this historical location in Anglesey. Porth Wen Brickworks is an abandoned Victorian brickworks. Visiting this stunning place is like stepping back in time, to a bygone era. One can only imagine what a busy, industrial location it once was.
It was built in the mid 19th Century and produced bricks until 1914, opening again briefly from 1924-1949. The bricks produced here were quartzite (silica) bricks, and quartzite was readily available in nearby quarries. These bricks were able to withstand higher temperatures and were ideal for use in the steel industry.
You can see the remains of the infrastructure today, including brick kilns, crushing house, boiler house and furnaces. Where the brickworks are situated and the shoreline is listed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty- and I think you can see why looking at this image.
