Hazy Days at South Stack

Ynys Laws at South Stack is a spectacular lighthouse. It was built by Trinity House in 1809 on a small island off the North West coast of Holyhead. It acts as a way mark for coastal traffic for boats crossing the Irish Sea, and is reached by descending 400 steps and crossing a bridge, and tours are available in peak season.

It is a working lighthouse, and it is a sight to behold at night when the full power of the light can be witnessed. The lighthouse keepers were withdrawn and the lighthouse was automated in 1984. The lighthouse is not the only element of interest- dramatic cliff faces, a nature reserve and Holyhead mountain.

There is plenty to explore in this beautiful location.
