The Wild Ponies at Tŵr Mawr
You may have guessed by now that Ynys Llanddwyn is one of my favourite places to visit in Anglesey. Not only is the landscape enchanting, the wildlife is too. It really is a magical place. One morning I spotted dolphins off at sea, but they were too far and too fast to catch with my camera.
The hardy Carneddau ponies are used to manage the gras and scrub on the nature reserves dunes, and each November they are collected from the mountains to undertake their important task and prevent overgrazing on the hills.
These beautiful animals don’t seem to mind humans much, in fact a few bolder ones are quite curious and will make their way over to you, content to be stroked. It is a magical sight to witness these ponies galloping on the sands of this romantic Welsh island.
